Kathmandu. Nepali students pursuing their degrees at the colleges of Champawat and Pithoragarh in the North-Indian State of Uttarakhand were unable to take their exams due to the cross-border travel restrictions imposed due to COVID-19. Kumaon University commenced with their examination on Monday but a significant number of Nepali students could not attend it.  Few of those who did manage to get across had their own share of struggles in their attempt.

A student anonymously interacted with the Times of India(TOI)  and mentioned having swum across the Mahakali river, which serves as a natural border between Nepal and India, to reach Pithoragarh. All Nepal-India border points have been sealed since 23 March earlier this year.

Roughly, 200 Nepali students are estimated to be undertaking their academic degrees in the aforementioned districts. When asked by the TOI, BC Pant, Principal of  Baluakot Degree College asserted that Nepali students had not reached out to the administration regarding their disposition and the college would take necessary actions if they did. LSM College’s principal CD Sutha expressed that the students from Nepal will get a chance to take the examination in November if unable to appear for the first time.
