Us Ambassador Terry Branstad Leaving His Post In October

The US Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, Terry Branstad is stepping down from his post before November this year. The US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo tweeted on Monday praising Branstad for his contribution to rebalancing the US-China relationship during his 3 years of tenure in Beijing.

The US embassy stated that the Ambassador confirmed his decision over a phone call with President Trump last week, though he did not provide any clear reasons for the departure. China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs is yet to receive an official notice. Furthermore,  no news regarding as to who will be filling the vacant position has surfaced.
