Nationwide public transport resumes after 6 months
Kathmandu. The public transport system of Nepal facing closure for about six months is being operational from today (Thursday). After the government declaring a lockdown in late March, long distance public transport had been suspended.
Complying to the decision of the cabinet meeting on Monday, long-haul and inter-district vehicular transportation is set to resume from today. The government had decided to end the prohibition and allow the resumption of long distance public transport, following safety measures. The cabinet meeting also decided to hike the fares by 50 percent.
As per the finalized safety protocol, the buses should run fifty percent their capacity and the drivers and assistants must use masks and sanitizers. Similarly, passengers need to put masks throughout the journey.
After joint discussions, representatives of organisations of entrepreneurs and workers said they were ready to resume the service in all routes.
