The manual for Safe Maternal and Reproductive Health has been approved on 14th September 2020, three years after the Safe Maternal and Reproductive Health Act was introduced. The manual for Public Health Service was also approved by the Council of Ministers on the same day.

The task group formed for the formulation of the manual has thanked the government and has urged all organizations and concerned sectors to help in the implementation of this act and manual. Safe maternal and reproductive health has been deemed essential and crucial for women, as it is a part of human rights and all women should have an equal access to it.

Although the act was launched few years ago, due to absence of a concrete manual, the task group encountered difficulties in working towards ensuring safe maternal and reproductive health of women. They had also filed a case in the Supreme Court after which the formation of the manual formally commenced.

The Reproductive Health Rights Group, which was established in co-ordination with National Women’s Commission has started its work in the field of sexual and reproductive health and rights associated with it.
