Weak participation of disabled children in alternative learning
Kathmandu. Alternative learning systems are proving increasingly useful to students in the present scenario. There have been suggestions as to make them more friendly to the disabled children.
In a virtual conference organized by the National Federation of the Disabled(NFD-N) on Friday on the topic ‘concerns for disabled students in the alternative learning system’, participants have suggested that more emphasis be given to resources and their accessibility to the disabled. Raju Basnet, General Secretary of the federation, informed that as per their initial survey, most of the disabled children have not been able to participate in the governments program and are facing a sort of psychosocial tension.
He complained that schools were not very concerned about the problems of the disabled students, especially ones suffering form blindness and hearing loss and that materials in the e-learning portals were not in appropriate form for them.
Speaking in the program, Narad Dhamala from Education and Human Resource Development Center informed that the government was identifying students who didn’t have access to information and technology in order to address their problems.
