Nepali national blamed for spying for China sent to a seven-day custody

Kathmandu. The Delhi high court has sent Sher Singh, a Nepali national to a seven-day custody after he was allegedly found working as a spy for China. Journalist Rajeev Sharma and a Chinese national- Qing Shi was also put on remand. According to a report from the Hindustan Times, they passed crucial documents related to Indian army and national security to China. Qing Shi reportedly gave money to Singh and made him an accomplice.

All three were presented in front of the court on Monday. The police has demanded for increase of their remand in custody. The court has ordered to conduct further investigations upon the case.

Sharma was arrested on 14th September. He had obtained a large sum of money from Qing Shi, according to the police. Sharma is said to have classified documents related to Indian national security.

Sharma is charged under the Official Secrets Act, although his lawyer Adish Aggarwala claims that all allegations against him are false. Police even searched for evidences at Sharma’s house but were not able to find any proof against him. Advocate Aggarwala claims that Sharma may have got the document from someone else. He demands that officials from the Ministry of Defense be investigated. Sharma was presented in front of the court via video conferencing but he was neither provided with a copy of FIR nor a lawyer.
