China denies encroachment in Nepali Territory: Says the land is theirs
Kathmandu. The Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu released a statement late in the night on Tuesday, denying reports of its encroachment in Lapcha, Humla. The statement comes in response to recent news reports released in Nepal and India highlighting China’s ongoing constructions in the district. The embassy made a claim that it had properly verified the area where the buildings were located, concluding that the land belonged to China. However, the statement further reads that Nepal may carry out its own verification regarding the matter.
The District Administration Office (DAO) Humla has sent a report to the Home Ministry in Kathmandu detailing the work of 42 members who recorded seeing the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) frequently observing the area. The report has mentioned that the structures are being built within the Namkha Rural Municipality. After the Chinese military held on to its claim on the territory, Bishnu Bahadur Tamang, chair of the Namkha village, who was part of the study team mentioned that the current situation was not conducive enough to hold talks between the two sides.
Raising the issue of the missing border pillar in the area, officials have stated that this issue needs to be briskly resolved through formal diplomatic channels.
