Kathmandu. The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) is sans its topmost official after Kulman Ghising had to take a compulsory leave at the end of his 4-year tenure in office. Currently, Kedar Koirala has taken the responsibility as the acting executive director of the NEA.

There have been protests and demonstrations in the streets asking for the reappointment of Ghising as the executive director even before his leaving the office. The popularity of Ghising is due to the effective leadership he showed in ending the long load-sheddings that had disrupted the Nepali life. Rumors are rife that there will be increase in load-shedding, now that Kulman Ghising has left NEA.

Minsiter of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Barshaman Pun called a meeting and discussed with the NEA officials at his office. He told that negative news about the ill intention of the government; Ministry of Energy and NEA were circulating which had to be dealt with appropriately.

“Questions will subside after you begin working. Some complaints are genuine whereas some are unnatural and irrelevant,” Minister Pun stated. “End of tenure and appointment of the executive director at the NEA is a regular process. Fingers are being pointed at the team that had worked productively coordinating with Ghising. This has to be responded via a more successful result and better management of NEA,” he added.
