Tears and woes: perilous state of a Nepali housemaid in Jordan (video)
Kathmandu. Samjhana Tamang, who had rosy dreams when she reached Jordan five months ago to work as a housemaid, has made a request for her safe return to Nepal. She states that not only has she been denied of the facilities mentioned in the terms of contract but mistreated as well.
She complained that she had not been given salary for three months and the proprietor of the house where she worked beat her every time she demanded her salary. She also moaned that she had not been provided with enough food and had to sleep several nights with empty stomach.
Kumar Dahal, director general of Department of Foreign Employment Department, has discussed with the concerned manpower agency after being informed about the case. “It seems that she has been physically and mentally tortured. I have ordered to make a detailed study and resolve the issue,” he said.
Tamang had been sent to Jordan by Manpower Link. Proprietor of Manpower Link Kamal Dev Malla told DCNepal that he would communicate with the concerned agency in Jordan. He also stated that his company had sent Tamang as a housemaid to Jordan as per the labor agreement with Jordan. Malla told that he would try to solve the problem as soon as possible.
There are about 15,000 housemaids working in Jordan at present.
DCNepal has received a video in which Samjhana is seen lamenting about her ordeals.
