Putin proposes election ‘non-interference’ agreement with the US
Moscow. Russian president Vladimir Putin has asked the United States to make an agreement of non-interference in upcoming elections.
In his statement, Putin called for the two countries to engage in a “professional expert dialogue” that would create “guarantees of non-interference into internal affairs of each other,” particularly the use of “information and communication technologies.”
Russia and the US have been accusing each other over ‘disinformation’ and intrusion of the social media. The suggestion comes from Putin at a time when he is visiting military drills involving China and Iran in southern Russia. Russia
According to Reuters, Putin’s proposal is aimed at diminishing major cyberspace incidents between the two countries and is comparable to the 1972 Soviet-American agreement made to reduce the possibility of an incident at sea or in the air,
Russia had been criticized for interfering in the previous US Presidential elections .Apart from prying in US politics, British officials claim that Russian intelligence services have used hackers to steal information on coronavirus vaccines. (Agency)
