Khalanga. A shorter route linking Khalanga Bazaar of Jumla to Rara lake, Mugu has made it a lot easier for tourists. Earlier, tourists had to use the Nagma-Sinja-Rara route.

Travelers abound the route that starts from  Khalanga Bazaar and goes through Patarasi VDC, Urthu, Patamara, Nyaurighat of Kanakasundari,   Chautha, Bulbule and ends in Rara Lake.  It has become the choice of the locals and  tourists alike.

The new route is three hours shorter than the Nagma-Gamgadhi route. The Karnali provincial government worked on the  standardization of the Khalanga-Rara route which simplified things to a greater extent. Though the number of tourists has decreased due to the corona pandemic, 2-3 vehicles still ply the route carrying tourists.

“This road has made traveling to Rara a lot easier now,”Jaya Bahadur Budha of Patarasi VDC says. “Tourists enjoy the beautiful vista. They camp in the meadows amidst the medicinal herbs and flowers. They enjoy a lot.”

Locals have found that Rara bound tourists first arrive at Khalanga, take the new route to Rara and return via the Nagma-Gamgadhi route.
