Heavy rainfall: Baglung in perils

Kathmandu. Incessant rainfall has wreaked havoc in Baglung District. 77 houses have been damaged and 215 are at high risk of landslide in Baglung and Jaimini Municipalities.

65 houses in Baglung Minicipality have been destroyed completely and 150 houses  suffer risk of damage. 65 households have been displaced because of flood and landslides caused by the continuous rainfall.

“Baglung Municipality has decided to provide Rs1,50,000 to each displaced household,” Mayor Janak raj Paudel informed. “That sum will help them rebuild a dwelling place.”

Mayor poudel also added that the households at severe risk of damage are also being provided Rs15,000 each.

Likewise, 12  houses in Jaimini Municipality have been ravaged by landslide and 56 are at total risk . Mayor of Jaimini Municipality Indra Raj Poudel told that the data of damages are being collected and the number is sure to rise. He informed that means of relief were being provided to the displaced families. The municipality has also been providing instant funeral expenses to the family of the deceased.

One lost his life due to a landslide at Kathekhola of the district, and more than a dozen houses face danger of  landslide at Kathekhola.

A part of the Mid-Hill Highway Baglung-Burtibang segment has collapsed at Galkot Municipality ward no. 1, causing disturbance in transportation. Rural roads have faced disruptions at numerous places because of landslides..

Crisis management committees at 10 local levels in the district are collecting the details of damages caused by the heavy rainfall.
