SC questions the government for blacklisting Omni

Kathmandu. The Supreme Court (SC) has issued an ‘order to show cause’ against the government for blacklisting Omni Business Corporate International Pvt. Ltd. (OBCI) which was not able to procure medical supplies from China in time when the government was at dire straits fighting agaist COVID-19.

The government on September 13 decided to blacklist Omni Group for its lack of commitment. Claims were also made about the medicines and equipment being inferior in quality and costlier than market price. The Department of Health Services had revoked the contract given to Omni Group  and confiscated  guarantee of Rs 60 million.

In response to the writ filed at the Apex Court by a promoter on behalf of the  company, a single bench of Justice Purushottam Bhandari on Monday has ordered the government to show cause for the blacklisting.

The SC will give its verdict after deliberations over the government’s reply to its notice.
