ANMF expresses solidarity with Dr Govinda KC; requests all to save his life
Florida, USA. America Nepal Medical Foundation (ANMF) has requested all concerned parties to ‘resolve the current stalemate’ regarding Dr Govinda KC and save his life. Dr KC, senior orthopedic surgeon, has been holding hunger strikes asking for reforms in the state’s medical education. He is on his 19th indefinite hunger strike currently.
In its press release, ANMF has stated that the organization may differ at certain issues, but it believes in Dr KC’s core demands for ‘decentralization of medical care, rural-friendly medical education and equitable and just distribution of healthcare’
Dr KC’s current demands include conducting MBBS classes at Karnali Academy of Health Sciences, and establishing at least one state-run hospital in each province of the nation. Dr KC had stated that he would be continuing his hunger strike until the government agreed to address his demands.

RE: Dr Govinda KC’s Fast unto Death Strike
America Nepal Medical Foundation (ANMF) has been earnestly following the current developments in Nepal surrounding the 19th fast unto death strike by Dr Govinda KC that started on September 14, 2020. Dr KC has been a tireless leader fighting to transform the established order of medical education and health care delivery in Nepal for more than a decade. He has touched the hearts of millions of Nepalis all over the world by his courageous, relentless and peaceful demands. Time and again, he has put his own life on the line to improve the state of healthcare and education in Nepal. Though we may differ on certain specific demands, ANMF believes Dr KC’s principal demands for decentralization of medical care, rural-friendly medical education and equitable and just distribution of healthcare to be in alignment with our own goals of advancing healthcare and medical education in Nepal. We at ANMF sincerely hope and believe that all the parties involved are able to resolve this current stalemate at the earliest so that Dr KC’s life can be saved. We wish for Dr KC’s speedy recovery and may our vision of an excellent, equitable and affordable healthcare and medical education system in Nepal come to fruition soon.
