Covid-19 death toll crosses one lakh in India
New Delhi. The number of deaths from coronavirus infection in India has exceeded one lakh. India has recorded the third highest number of deaths after the United States and Brazil. The number of virus caused deaths in India has exceeded one lakh, 204 days after the first death. In Brazil, it took 158 days, while in the United States, one million people died in 83 days. The first case of coronavirus in India was reported on January 30 in Kerala when a student returning from Wuhan, China showcased symptoms.
The outbreak began on March with the death of a 76 year old man in Kalburgi, Karnataka who had returned from Saudi Arabia. The number of infections at the time of the first death was 75; forty-eight days later the death toll had risen to more than a thousand, which now has risen beyond one lakh. At present, the average death rate caused by the virus in India is 2%.
