Kathmandu. The whole of India was shaken after a teenage girl was gang-raped and killed after her tongue was cut off in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh, India. However, in the Hathras district where the incident took place, the apparent upper castes have made extremely inhumane decisions. According to the Indian newspaper Dainik Bhaskar, Brahmins and Thakurs from 12 villages have decided to hold a meeting and launch a campaign to save the accused from the charges of gang rape and murder.

According to the news, a panchayat of the Thakur community has been held in Baghana village near Bulgadhi village on Friday, whereby they decided to launch a campaign for the release of the accused. This panchayat was attended by Brahmins and Thakurs from Bulgadhi and a dozen surrounding villages. The panchayat claimed that the Savarna community was being targeted in the wake of this incident, resulting in the Dalits getting more frustrated against the Savarna.

The panchayat concluded that the medical report did not confirm the gang-rape, and demanded tests on both sides. They have also decided not to allow anyone from outside to enter the victim’s village. Yesterday, a legislator from the Thakur community had accused the family of the victim itself being involved in her murder.
