NRNA calls for an immediate passing of the NRN Citizenship Act
Kathmandu. The 13th European Meeting and Second Knowledge Conference of Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), held on October 3 and 4, has urged the Parliament to expedite the passage of the Act related to NRN citizenship.
The Act has been passed by the State Affairs Committee of the Federal Parliament and is now under consideration of the Parliament. The conference underscored that a Nepali anywhere in the world is always a Nepali and appealed all lawmakers and the major political parties to pass the Act with the provision of connecting the future generations of NRNs with Nepal.
The virtual conference with the theme ‘Skills and Knowledge for the Motherland, Our Campaign for Voice of Women and Youth’ carried different sessions like the 11th European women assembly, the youth conference and other contemporary issues.
In the Second Knowledge Conference, discussions were held on the working papers presented by Nepali and Non-Resident Nepali experts. Coordinator of NRNA, Europe, Narayan Acharya, said that the conference solicited collaboration with government bodies, partners of academic and research organisations of Nepal as well as NRN experts on topics as COVID-19, climate change, renewable energy, environment conservation and infrastructure development.
According to national news agency RSS, the conference was inaugurated by Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Yogesh Kumar Bhattarai and was attended by Nepali Congress joint general secretary Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat, Minister for Education, Science and Technology Giriraj Mani Pokharel, NCP leader Dr Gangalal Tuladhar, Nepali Congress leader Gagan Kumar Thapa, ambassadors, central leaders of NRNA, former presidents of NRNA, representatives of various social organizations in Europe, journalists and NRNs.
