Nobel Prize in Physics awarded to three Laureates

Kathmandu. The Nobel Committee for Physics has decided to award three Laureates for their extraordinary achievements in the concerned field. The award will jointly be held by Roger Penrose, Reinhard Genzel and Andrea Ghez.

Sir Roger Penrose is an English mathematical physicist being honored with the first half for the  “for the discovery that black hole formation is a robust prediction of the general theory of relativity. Reinhard Genzel, a German astrophysicist and Andrea Ghez, an American Astronomer will be jointly holding the other half for “for the discovery of a supermassive compact object at the center of our galaxy.”

Ghez is the fourth woman who has been awarded with the Nobel Prize in Physics, and stated that she wished to inspire other young women to join the field. She further commented that  “It is a field that has so many pleasures, and if you are passionate about the science there is so much that can be done.”

The Nobel Prize in Medicine was awarded jointly to Harvey J. Alter, Michael Houghton and Charles M. Rice on Monday. The announcement for the Nobel Prize for Chemistry will be on Wednesday, the Nobel Prize for Literature on Thursday, the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday, and the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Science on next Monday in Sweden.
