Two rhinos dead in a single day
Chitwan. A rhino was found dead on roadside in Bankatta Bangachhiya of Sauraha sector of the Chitwan National Park on Monday. The rhino, estimated to be 12 year old, had one of its hind legs broken. The horn and hoof of the rhino were intact
Information officer of the park Ashok Ram speculated the cause of death to be a fight with another of its kin.
Similarly, a dead rhino was cremated after postmortem in the Valmiki Tiger Reserve area of India. “The rhino was carried downstream by the currents and it died after a struggle of half an hour,” Ram said. The information was provided by officers at the Valmiki Tiger Reserve to the Nepali side. The protocol demands dead animals to be disposed off on the same side of the border they are found.
With the death of seven rhinos in the last three months, the number of these giant mammals have come down to 605 in the Chitwan National Park.
