25-year strategy of cooperatives: Emphasis on production, entrepreneurship and employment

Kathmandu. The National Cooperative Development Board has prepared a 25-year strategy for the development of the cooperative sector. The strategy has been prepared by emphasizing on the productive work and the increase of entrepreneurship and employment through cooperatives.

The board held a formal program on Wednesday and handed over the draft strategy to the Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, Padma Kumari Aryal. Understanding the draft of the strategic plan, Minister Aryal stated that a strategic document has been prepared for the expansion, development and strengthening of the cooperative movement.

Minister Aryal mentioned that the strategy has been prepared with a clear vision for the overall development of the cooperative sector keeping in view the international practice and the national situation. Acknowledging that the cooperative sector should move towards entrepreneurship, she mentioned that emphasis was laid on the development of entrepreneurship and employment.

The issue of good governance has also been raised in the cooperatives which have increased in number. She added that the government, the private sector, and the cooperative sector should move forward in coordination with all the three levels of government to achieve the goal of “Prosperous Nepal and happy Nepalese.’

She confirmed that the strategy of the cooperative sector prepared by the ward will be implemented by the Ministry soon. The Secretary at the Ministry, Tek Narayan Pandey mentioned that the strategy was visionary, and that it could move the cooperative sector forward in 25 years. Stating that the strategy will be implemented by the government by making arrangements in periodical plans and annual programs, he added that the cooperatives will be taken forward by organizing them on the foundation of socialism. The Board’s co-chairman Daksha Poudel informed that a 25-year strategy has been prepared with a plan to move the cooperative forward.
