Nobel Prize in Chemistry jointly awarded to Charpentier and Doudna
Kathmandu. The Nobel Committee for Chemistry has decided to jointly honor two Laureates “for the development of a method for genome editing,” called CRISPR.
Emmanuelle M. Charpentier, a French scientist and Jennifer A. Doudna, an American biochemist will be jointly holding the award for their achievements in the field. The award will include a prize money amounting to 10 million krona, which has been recently increased due to inflation, and a gold medal.
The Nobel Prize in Medicine was jointly awarded to Harvey J. Alter, Michael Houghton and Charles M. Rice “for the discovery of Hepatitis C virus,” on Monday, and the Nobel Prize for Physics was awarded to three scientists, Roger Penrose, Reinhard Genzel and Andrea Ghez, on Tuesday. The Nobel Prize for Literature will be announced on Thursday. Similarly, an announcement for the Nobel Peace Prize and Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Science will be conducted on Friday and next Monday, respectively in Sweden.
