Nobel Prize in Literature awarded to the American poet Louise Gluck
Kathmandu. The Nobel Committee for Literature has decided to award the American poet Louise Gluck “for her unmistakable poetic voice that with austere beauty makes individual existence universal.”
The Chair of the Committee, Anders Olsson, in explaining the decision remarked that Gluck had a voice that “is candid and uncompromising and signals that this poet wants to be understood. She has humour and biting wit.”
The announcement for the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was made on Monday outlining the outstanding achievements of Harvey J. Alter, Michael Houghton and Charles M. Rice, “for the discovery of Hepatitis C virus.” The Nobel Prize for Physics was jointly awarded to three Laureates, Roger Penrose, Reinhard Genzel and Andrea Ghez on Tuesday. Similarly, the Nobel Prize for Chemistry was jointly awarded to Emmanuelle M. Charpentier and Jennifer A. Doudna “for the development of a method for genome editing,” termed CRISPR on Wednesday.
The announcement for the Nobel Peace Prize and the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Science will be made on Friday and next Monday, respectively in Sweden.
