Kathmandu. The proposal put forward by the COVID-19 Crisis Management Center (CCMC)  to give a longer Dashain holidays this year, closing the government offices from Ghatasthapana to Purnima, has been put down by the Cabinet meeting on Monday.

According to a minister, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli disapproved the proposal citing that it would send a negative message to the public. Minister of Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali tried to convince PM Oli, who responded that the proposal was ill advised as the early closure would disrupt public service and lead to more gatherings.

The CCMC had prepared the strategy to close all government offices from Ghatasthapana to Purnma as the corona infection has exploded of late and the government seems unable to handle the crisis. There have been 114,000 cases till Monday, with more than 11,000 cases added just in the last three days. More than 50 percent of the total infection cases of the country have been registered in the Kathmandu Valley alone.
