Japanese Prime Minister to visit Indonesia and Vietnam
Tokyo. Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga will be travelling to Indonesia and Vietnam next week. This will be his first diplomatic visit since he took up office in September, this year.
The Prime Minister has been following his predecessor’s footsteps while extending Japan’s footprints in South Asia. Vietnam is the current chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN) and a popular choice for Japanese firms as well, whereas, Indonesia is also an important country due to its economic developments.
Kunihiko Miyake, a special advisor to Suga, said, “I think it is important to show … we put more emphasis and importance on that region and we are interested in the security situation, especially in the South China Sea.”
Japan is planning to sign an agreement with Vietnam to export defense equipment and also extend defense co-operations with Indonesia.
