Surkhet. The Nepal Telecom branch office at Simikot, district headquarters of Humla has received a Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) set recently. The newly installed VSAT set will replace the earlier radio-link service which used to be damaged by the regular snowfall received by Humla in winter.

Chief of Nepal Telecom, Humla, Shiva Prasad Bhattarai said, “The new technology is  being used to end the turmoil of the people of Humla which they have to face in telecommunication in winter.”  Bhattarai told the National News Agency (RSS) that Nepal Telecom has set the VSAT as it would be convenient to use the service of one’s own company rather than seek help from other service providers during winter.

The VSAT will be effective in carrying regular and other alternative tasks as the Namaste network gets disturbed often. Since the technical team for repair and maintenance has to arrive from Kathmandu, generally, a problem in the radio link would lead to a minimum of a week to a month of disturbance in service, before.
