Kabul. A UN official has made a comment that Talibanis have been in contact with Al-Qaeda. He has stated that Ayman al-Zawahiri, a Talibani leader is still in close relations with the terrorist group despite their repeated assurances to the United States of America that they have cut ties with the group.

According to an article published in the Hindustan Times, Edmund Fitton-Brown, the coordinator of the United Nations monitoring team for Daesh, Al-Qaeda and the Taliban, on Friday mentioned that, “Senior figures remain in Afghanistan, as well as hundreds of armed operatives. The Taliban regularly consulted with Al-Qaeda during the negotiations with the United States and they offered informal guarantees that would honor their historic ties with Al-Qaeda.”

The Talibanis declined having any relations with Al-Qaeda and rejected all the claims that insinuated such ties. The Taliban group is engaged in peace talks with the Afghan Government in Doha, that is currently being mediated by the US.
