39 killed in road accidents in Gandaki
Last year, a total of 223 people, including 38 children lost their lives due to road accidents in Gandaki.
Nawalpur. The Gandaki State Traffic Police informed that 39 people have lost their lives due to road accidents in the Gandaki province, during the first three months of the current fiscal year.
The Chief Superintendent of Gandaki State Traffic Police, Prabhu Dhakal said that a total of 102 vehicle accidents have taken place in the 11 districts. Nawalparasi (east of Bardaghat-Sustapur) has recorded the highest number of road accidents, whereas, Kaski has the highest number of casualties.
According to Dhakal, 50 motorcycles, 21 jeeps, 13 tractors, 7 trucks/ tankers, 4 buses, 3 bicycles and 2 excavators and 2 tempos were involved in the accident.
Dhakal stated that the major cause of the accident was the negligence of the driver and the culture of driving without a license. The District Police Offices in Nawalparasi, Kaski and Tanahu have started using smart license card reader machines. Similarly, the District Traffic Police Office in Kaski and Tanahu have been using radar machines to check the speed of vehicles.
