540 goats sold in a day
Kathmandu. The government company Food Management and Trading Company Limited has sold a large number of goats in a single day in a relatively cheaper price as opposed to the usual market price. The company had plans to sell 1,000 goats as a target for this Dashain season. However, the number is expected to go higher as 540 of them were sold on Monday alone.
The company has stated that more goats are being brought from Hetauda and Dang today. Since the sale was exorbitantly more than anticipated, there will be no sale of goats this afternoon.
The company had planned to sell 1,000 goats and 1,000 Himalayan mountain goats (Chyangra) this year, anticipating a drop in sales this year compared to last year due to the coronavirus situation. After Himalayan mountain goats could not be brought from Tibet, it became expensive in Mustang, limiting the company to stick to the sales of goats only. It stated that further discussions will be held this afternoon at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies after the sale was higher than expected.
The company has also stated that there are no more goats around Hetauda area and no further purchase can be made. It has sold them at Rs 550 with a discount of Rs 10 per kg while the private traders have sold it in the range of Rs 600 to 650 per kg.
