Spain forces partial lockdown and night curfew
Spain’s prime minister will be proposing six months extension in partial lockdown and night curfew.
Madrid. COVID-19 that was first reported in the Wuhan city of China has affected more than 200 countries. Spain and Italy were badly hit by the pandemic in March and April, however, the number of new cases had decreased after May.
Last month, the second wave of the viral infection emerged in Spain with over 7,000 cases and 406 deaths recorded in a single week. In response to this, the Government had declared a 15-day emergency in the Capital city of Madrid, causing tensions to emerge within the restaurant and bar owners in the area.
Yesterday, after the official announcement of the national emergency by the Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón, the night curfew came into effect from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. for 15 days. Inter-districts movement has further been restricted and the local administration will be able to adjust the night curfew at its convenience, while also banning outsiders from travelling in their respective areas.
The Prime Minister also stated that he would take the proposal to extend the restrictions for a 6-month period.
