Amargadhi Kotghar handed over to the municipality by NA
Dadeldhura. The Nepali Army(NA) has finished the construction of the Kotghar (arsenal) at the historic Amargadhi Fort and handed it over to Amargadhi Municipality on Thursday. The Kotghar will be a repository for ancient weapons and house a library.
The Amargadhi Fort has historic significance. Since the old Kotghar was irreparably damaged and it became difficult to impart information about the fort to tourists, NA undertook the task to build a new Kotghar. The construction was completed at a cost of two million rupees.
According to National News Agency (RSS), Far-Western Division Commander Maj Gen Nirmal Kumar Thapa said that NA would coordinate for the materials required in the Kotghar. Mayor of Amargadhi Municipality Bishweshwar Ojha noted that weapons used by ancestors during Anglo- Nepal War would be kept in the Kotghar.
The flow of tourists is expected to rise after the new construction. Amar Singh Thapa,, the commander of the western front during the Anglo-Nepal War (1814-1816), had built the fort during the expansion campaign of Nepal in the west. Later, it was named after him.
