Kathmandu. Some patients who are suffering from the novel coronavirus have started to develop an ‘auto antibody’ that attacks their immune system rather than the virus. According to experts, a new study has revealed that patients of ‘long COVID’ develop such kind of anti-bodies.
‘Long COVID’ is a case where patients who test negative for the virus later develop many health-related illnesses weeks after recovery. According to scientists at Emory University, Georgia, such auto antibodies making mechanism are same as they were in cases of Hepatitis, as they were created as an auto immune response. Their study also revealed that harmful immune cells were developed in some COVID-negative patients that could lead to difficulties in curing them.
In an article published by Science Alert, it was specified that it was difficult to identify the exact number of patients affected by long COVID but the numbers are continuously increasing. It has been stated that even after the patients test negative, some find themselves weak and tired for months after.
According to a study conducted in the United Kingdom, 81 out of 110 patients who were discharged from hospital had suffered from various health complications that continued for a few months. Long COVID patients consist of people who come from various age groups.
