Kathmandu. There has been a meeting between the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) chair duo Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on Saturday, ending the 11-day silence between them.

The meeting was centered at the disputes within the party. According to Bishnu Sapkota, press advisor to Chair Prachanda, Prachanda had entered Baluwatar at 1 pm. The meeting ended after three hours and Prachanda has asked Oli to call the meeting of the party secretariat to discuss on some crucial issues.

The rift had increased between the two chairs after the Karnali dispute and although PM Oli tried in the meanwhile to converse with Prachanda, Prachanda had been avoiding under different pretexts.

NCP General Secretary Bishnu Paudel and member of NCP Permanent Committee Subash Nembang had met Prachanda at Khumaltar on Wednesday. Prachanda complained how Oli made a unilateral decision while expanding the Cabinet bypassing him.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Pradeep Gyawali also went to meet Prachanda at his residence on Friday. The current meeting between Oli and Prachanda was an outcome of the effort of Oli’s loyal companions.

The Prachanda-Nepal faction of NCP has been accusing Oli of breaking the understanding with the other leaders and going against the party on several counts. Oli had appointed ambassadors against party decision, unilaterally expanded the Cabinet, provoked provincial leaders to register vote of no confidence in Karnali against their own chief minister and met with the chief of Indian intelligence agency RAW against the party decision, the leaders enumerate their dissatisfactions against the prime minister.

They also allege the Oli group to have tried to prevent the police from taking action in the recent Mukesh Chaurasiya murder case. Chaurasiya was a former Maoist cadre.

NCP Chair duo Oli and Dahal had discussed in detail  on October 20 in order to resolve the NCP Karnali issue. Dahal, however, complained of Oli going against the agreement and acting on sole decision. Prachanda had been refusing Oli’s invitations for meetings and talks thereafter.
