Taiwan has no local corona cases for the last six months
Kathmandu. The world has been fighting a tough battle with coronavirus this year. Many countries have started to witness the third wave of the coronavirus pandemic. However, Taiwan has effectively tackled the crisis.
Taiwan has completed 200 days or six months and twenty days without a single local case of the deadly virus. According to an article in Al Jazeera, Taiwan’s Center for Disease Control Centre (CDC) announced the achievement on Thursday and thanked the public for following health precautions of washing hands and wearing masks. Taiwan has recorded 553 cases and 7 deaths from the virus until now. The last local case was recorded on April 12.
Taiwan carefully monitored the cases since the disease outbreak started in January. It closed all its borders and kept strict symptom-based surveillance upon all arrivals and departures. Taiwan also enforced strict contact tracing measures which helped contain the disease.
Taiwan’s success story is exemplary in the sense that it is so close to the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak, China. With a population of 23 million, Taiwan has estimated a GDP growth of 3.92% in 2021.
