Kathmandu Metropolitan City bans free food distribution at Khula Manch
Kathmandu. The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has restricted the distribution of free food to people at Khula Manch in Kathmandu. KMC has not allowed the distribution of food since last Saturday stating that the provision of freely available food was causing the place to get dirty. They ordered the municipal police to stop the distribution of food.
Anshu Yadav from the Hundred Group, which has been distributing free food, mentioned that he received a call from the metropolis on Monday afternoon and was instructed by the district administration office not to distribute food.
The Group called the Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Bidya Sundar Shakya trying to understand the cause of the issue but the phone call was unanswered. Deputy Mayor Hari Prabha Khadki asserted that she had no information regarding the matter. She expressed to DC Nepal, “I am not aware of this. The government may have given instructions to the metropolis, and it may have stopped.”
The lockdown imposed after the spread of the coronavirus pandemic had led many daily wages workers to lose their means of income for sustenance. Various social activists had been distributing free food at Khula Manch since a long time by raising the required funds. They had been able to help people who couldn’t afford to sustain their livelihood by distributing free food.
