New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern forms an inclusive cabinet
Kathmandu. The Prime Minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern won her second term in the office after the recent elections. Prime Minister Ardern has announced her inclusive cabinet of ministers, which she said was “incredibly diverse”.
According to an article in Al Jazeera, she has chosen Grant Robertson, the first only gay individual, as the Deputy Prime Minister. He will also be retaining the position of the Finance Minister. Nanaia Mahuta has been chosen as the Foreign Minister. She represents the Maori community and has a traditional Maori tattoo on her chin.
Prime Minister Ardern has stated that, “It is both a cabinet with huge merit and talent, which also happens to be incredibly diverse. I think it’s an important point to make – these are individuals who have been promoted for what they bring to the cabinet, they also reflect the New Zealand that elected them. I think as a country we should be proud of this.” She also told reporters at Wellington that the next three years will be challenging for New Zealand, given the global circumstances that the world is facing due to COVID-19.
However, she has promised to prioritize economic recovery in her current term.
