Arnab Goswami arrested on charges of inciting to commit suicide
Mumbai. Maharashtra Police on Wednesday arrested the editor and owner of Republic TV, Arnab Goswami on the charges of abetment to commit suicide.
Hindustan Times reports that In May 2018, 53-year old Mumbai based interior designer, Avnay Naik and his mother Kumud Naik committed suicide in Alibaug. During the investigation by CID, a suicide note was found in which Naik had made allegations against 3 of his clients, one of them being Goswami, all of whom had not paid him Rs. 5.4 crores.
The Republic Tv in 2018 was able to defend the allegations by calling it a “Malicious Campaign” and claiming that all dues were paid on time. In 2019, Raigad Police had closed the case of abetment to suicide.
Earlier in May, in response to the complaint brought by the daughter of Avnay regarding the discontinuation of investigation, Home Minister Anil Deshmukh had announced a fresh CID investigation.
Avnay was the managing director of Concorde Designs Private Limited. Naik’s mother was also on the Board of Directors of the Company. Avnay’s wife Akshata claimed that the family was in financial trouble since 500 workers were hired for the design of the Republic studio. While Arnab did not pay the dues, Avnay and his mother Kumud committed suicide out of stress.
