Doctors at Bir Hospital submit group resignation
Kathmandu. Doctors at Bir Hospital, the country’s oldest hospital, have announced a group resignation today. Doctors serving at the officer level have submitted their resignation through a letter to the director of the hospital. For the resignation, they have stated reasons like having made to work for 96 hours a week including 24 hour-shifts and the lack of health security standards in the workplace.
The doctors who have submitted their resignation are Drs Kaushalendra Chaudhary, Sushobhit Karki, Mahesh Giri, Nabin Thapa, Salona Shrestha, Bishesh Siwakoti, Kriti Thapa, Rakesh Kumar Singh, Shobha Thapa, and kirti Gopal Dongol among others.
They had mentioned in the letter of having informed the hospital administration repeatedly about their complaints but no response had been received from the administration side. Adding to that, they had been discriminated as daily-wage workers and denied the Dashain-Tihar allowance, the doctors’ letter reads.
“The just demands we made working tirelessly during the pandemic were neglected. We were mistreated as daily-wage workers and denied the Dashain-Tihar allowance. This has decreased our morale,” they complain.
