Goods worth 1.4 million seized by police at the eastern border

Kakarbhitta. The Jhapa police have confiscated goods worth approximately Rs 1.4 million today. The police have increased the patrolling at the border during the festive season, as a result they have been able to seize large amount of illegal firecrackers and clothing items.

Fancy clothes and clothing materials worth Rs 721 thousand have been seized at the Kakarbhitta customs check point. The goods were being brought into Nepal from India evading taxes.

Similarly, the police arrested two persons, Prashannajit Darji and autorickshaw driver Bishwonath Pradhan from Mechinagar Municipality-10 with 13 sacks full of firecrackers, which they were trying to supply into Nepal from India, said Superintendent of Police (SP) Krishna Prasad Koirala.

During a security check, police found illegal firecrackers worth Rs 700 thousand  in their possession in the autorickshaw (Me 1 Ha 5527). For further legal procedures both of them have been sent to Area Police Office Dhulabari, National News Agency (RSS) states.

“With the festivals of Tihar and Chath approaching, there are more chances of firecrackers and other goods being smuggled into Nepal,” said SP Koirala.  “The police are increasing their inspection in the border area.”
