Rank of honorary General conferred on Indian Army Chief Naravane
Kathmandu. The Indian Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane has been accorded the rank of honorary General of the Nepali Army. In a special ceremony organized at the Shital Niwas, President Bidya Devi Bhandari conferred the rank insignia of honorary General of the Nepali Army on the Indian Army Chief.
The reciprocal gesture of conferring the rank of honorary general on the chiefs of each other’s militaries has been practiced by Nepal and India since 1950. General Naravane is the 18th Indian Army chief to be conferred the rank of honorary General of Nepali Army. The then Indian Army Chief General KM Cariappa had received the honor first in 1950. General Surendra Bahadur Shah was the first Nepali Army Chief to be accorded the honorary rank.
COAS Purna Chandra Thapa is the 14th Nepali Army Chief receiving the honorary rank of General of the Indian Army. He had been conferred the honorary rank by Indian President Ram Nath Kovind in 2019.
