Acclaimed Nepali researcher in the US wants to return home
Washington DC. Dr Rajendra Pangeni is a well-known name in the medical research fraternity in Europe and the US for his researches in the field of brain and lung cancers. His research has revealed new facts about the spreading of lung cancer and an extensive research is being carried on his finding. The love for his motherland, however, has outweighed fame and material gain. Dr Pangeni is preparing to return to Nepal.
Giving an interview for DCNepal’s ‘The Intellectual Forum’, Dr Pangeni expressed his desire to establish a research center in Nepal and work there.
Dr Pangeni is also leading a social media campaign, “Return to Nepal,” in Facebook and tells that his team is going to set up a research center in Nepal shortly. His team is planning to launch the center within one or two months and is hoping to include experts and intellectuals who have already returned to Nepal or are planning to do so.
He argued that the earlier generation of Nepali intellectuals from Harvard, Cambridge, and Oxford has failed to transform Nepal, but the present generation can’t make excuses and it has to work for Nepal and the Nepalis.
Sharing his struggles during his college life in n the US he says: “I washed dishes in the hotels and worked at petrol pumps and dance bars. It was not easy for me to bear the expenses. I could not get monetary support from home. My father and brother helped me a lot to move ahead during difficulties.”
Dr Pangeni is carrying his Postdoctoral research in brain cancer from the City of Hope National Medical Center in California. He has published his research results and other articles in numerous international journals and his researches are being further studied by experts in the field.
