Kathmandu. The Democratic candidate Joe Biden won the 2020 US Presidential elections, after receiving a record number of votes in his favor. Biden will be sworn in on January, 2021 as the 46th President of the United States of America, and as per The Washington Post, he seeks to reverse President Donald Trump’s policies on matters of climate change, immigration and COVID-19 management, amongst others.

The Post has written that he will lead the US, as per his campaign commitments, to rejoin the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change, and reverse Donald Trump’s decision to step away from the World Health Organization (WHO). “He will repeal the ban on almost all travel from some Muslim-majority countries, and he will reinstate the program allowing “dreamers,” who were brought to the United States illegally as children, to remain in the country, according to people familiar with his plans,” the report further notes.

During the prime time speech, Biden maintained that, “On Monday, I will name a group of leading scientists and experts as transition advisers to help take the Biden-Harris COVID plan and convert it into an action blue print that will start on Jan. 20.”

The 12-member COVID-19 task force, as noted by Axios, will be directed by three co-chairs,  “former Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, former Food and Drug Administration Commissioner David Kessler and Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith from Yale University.”

While those who supported him during his campaign, celebrate his victory, remaining hopeful with his plans for the future of the US, staunch supporters of Trump flooded into the streets in many cities to carry out their protests.

As Al Jazeera reports, Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani has, furthermore, detailed the campaign’s legal steps in contesting the Election results. “Investigations are going to have to take place. There’s too many examples of tampering with the ballots, that kind of stuff, in Philly especially. And Trump knew all this; Trump knew this was going to happen,” claimed a Trump supporter in Philadelphia.

Donald Trump has warned that “the race is far from over.” He further stated after Biden’s win was declared, “We all know why Joe Biden is rushing to falsely pose as the winner, and why his media allies are trying so hard to help him: they don’t want the truth to be exposed.”

After Trump insisted on undermining the democratic process all along the campaign trails, some of his supporters have now taken it to heart that election fraud may be a legitimate possibility, and have refused to accept the results of the race. This is mostly because of the mail-in-ballots that were submitted by many individuals due to the threat posed by the novel coronavirus. Many who backed the Republican candidate also were reluctant to use the mail-in-ballots, owing to the President’s often harsh words against mail voting, thus, resulting in an overwhelming number of such ballots being called in the favor of Joe Biden.

Though there have been no reports of a rapid escalation of violence, the celebrations and the protests showcase a divided nation, that Biden has promised to heal during his Presidency. Pennsylvania saw the authorities having to step in to quell the disagreement between Biden supporters and protestors in Philadelphia. Similar incidents were recorded in California, Idaho, New Mexico, Tennessee and Arizona.

Biden has taken the reigns of the nation in the times of an unprecedented crisis. Trump spent his entire campaign questioning the validity of the voting ballots, and fueling the divisions in the states, often with his inflammatory rhetorics.

It is important to take into consideration, moreover that the GOP might take back the Senate control, and that could serve as a complication for Biden throughout his Presidency, as he may have to rely quite heavily on executive orders.
