Bhaktapur. The second greatest festival of the Nepalis Tihar is approaching but the festival of lights and colors is not as charming as previous years because the fear and anxiety created by the corona pandemic has undermined the festive mood of people.
Though there is lack pf enthusiasm among people and the businesses show dismal performances, Gundu of Suryabinayak Municipality-7, Bhaktapur presents a different picture. Most of the villagers here are flower farmers and they are all busy harvesting the flowers at present.
All Gundu households that have chosen flower farming spend about Rs 50 thousand during the planting season and earn about Rs 500-600 thousand per year.
Nepal’s flower market has expanded and so has the production of the flowers in the country. Nepal is slowly becoming self sufficient in flower production as farmers have started to opt for flower farming rather than traditional farming of other crops.
DCNepal’s Raman Manandhar has shared some glimpses of Gundu flower farms caught through his lens.
