Differences arise in the GOP after Bush congratulates Biden on win, calling the election fair
Kathmandu. After Joe Biden won the 2020 US Presidential Election, former President George W. Bush congratulated him for his victory through the phone. He also expressed that the Election was “fundamentally fair,” though his statement has not been well received by the GOP.
Many members of the Republican party, including President Donald J. Trump have been claiming that the election is unfair and rigged. Bush has also congratulated Trump on receiving an extraordinary number of votes second to Biden. He mentioned that Trump had led a ‘hard fought campaign’ and received an ‘extraordinary political achievement’.
After Trump tweeted, “We think these people are thieves. It was a rigged election,” Twitter labelled it as a controversial post and censored it content.
Benjamin L. Ginsberg, a lawyer who represented Bush’s legal campaign to re-count votes in Florida during the 2000 Presidential Election, told CBS News that “Trump should look at the results with a little patience. It’s a democracy. This is a country that has been very good for you. All you have to do is respect the institutions and the greatest institution in this is our election which leads to a peaceful transfer of power. And, you can’t destroy it.”
