Moderna is close to announcing the effectiveness of its new mRNA Vaccine
MRNA-1273 vaccine is the first of its kind which instead of preventing infection, teaches the body to better fight the virus.
Kathmandu. On Wednesday, the American Biopharmaceutical company, Moderna announced that the results of the performance of its MRNA-1273 Coronavirus vaccine will soon be released by the end of this month. Currently, the company is accumulating data for the first analysis of the vaccine.
Earlier in September, The company had enrolled 30,000 volunteers who were given two shots of the vaccine. The authorities were waiting for the patients to get ill so that they could collect data from them. At least 53 research participants needed to become ill with COVID-19 in order for the vaccine to be considered for authorization by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
On Wednesday, the trial reached 53 points after which the company is preparing to send its data to the Safety Monitoring Board.
Moderna had released a 135-page blueprint document that revealed that the MRNA-1273 vaccine is the first of its kind which “instead of preventing infection, teaches the body to better fight the virus”, and hopefully will reduce its severity to that of a common cold.
Earlier this week, another manufacturer, Pfizer claimed that their vaccine achieved an effectiveness of more than 90%, in early analysis. The United States’ Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dr. Anthony Fauci on Wednesday stated that Pfizer’s outstanding results are good news for Moderna as well.
