Kathmandu. Once a vaccine against COVID-19 is declared successful, counterfeit ones may be sold in the markets illegally. Officials from the UK’s National Crime Agency have issued such a warning for such possibilities.
According to a report in the British newspaper, The Independent, British authorities have taken action to stop the sale of counterfeit corona vaccines. As per the officials, in the early days of the pandemic, some had tried to sell fake PPE kits.
Graeme Bigger, Director General at the National Economic Crime Centre mentioned that there was a risk of a major financial rift over the vaccine. He stated that the gangs selling fake vaccines will be operational soon after the vaccines are ready, and that the agency was already preparing to stop it.
According to him, criminal groups had, previously, been carrying out various unlawful activities related to coronavirus. They had once tried to sell fake coronavirus testing kits. Authorities in the United States and the United Kingdom have also mentioned that hackers have tried to attack the vaccine companies.
