Kathmandu. Liverpool football club’s Egyptian striker Mohamed Salah Hamed Mahrous Ghaly aka “Mo Salah” has tested positive for COVID-19 during an international duty on Friday.

Egyptian Football Association announced that 28-year-old Mohamed Salah is not suffering from any severe symptoms and will undergo a few other tests in the coming hours while being kept in self-isolation in a special room. Meanwhile, he will also be provided with solo training facilities.

Although the rest of the teammates have negative test results, they are advised to isolate themselves as well. The national team’s doctor, Mohamed Abou Elela has requested the people who have recently been in close contact with Egypt players to move into quarantine.

According to Abou Elela, the national standard of staying in isolation after testing positive in Egypt is seven days, after which if Salah tests negative, then he will be allowed to travel and rejoin the team.

Last week, Salah was seen dancing in a crowd without a proper face mask and social distancing while attending his brother’s wedding in Cairo. The social media pictures and video footage has caused confusions about him catching virus at the ceremony.

In response to this, Abou Elela told the Associated Press that they cannot assume the contraction of virus to a particular event. The Goal reported that the mayor of the Salah’s hometown, where the wedding had taken place, defended the star player by claiming that Salah had followed government guidelines and was extremely cautious during the one-hour event.

Salah will miss out on two upcoming premier league matches of Liverpool against Atlanta at Anfield next week. Also, he will also miss AFCON qualifying double-header match against Togo scheduled next week.
