Mahendranagar. Lack of bridge over the Doda river compels locals of the Laljhadi Rural Municipality in Kanchanpur to use rubber tubes to cross the river during the winter for which they have to seek help from the rubber tube operators and pay for the service.
Lokendra Rana of Laljhadi-4 informs National News Agency (RSS) that people with a cycle have to pay 20 rupees and with a motorcycle have to pay 200 rupees per person to cross the river.
The rural municipality is yet to be linked to public transportation service. The construction of the bridge over the river along the Bani-Dekhatbhuli-Parsia road had begun in 2015 but not even half of the work has been complete. The delay has added to the woes of the locals of one of the most geographically remote regions of the district.
People can cross the river using tubes in winter but that is impossible in the summer as the water level rises. Moreover, using the tube to cross the river is not a safe method, considering some deaths due to drowning while crossing the river.
