Kathmandu. After a score of uniformed U.S. secret service officials on duty in the White House contracted COVID-19 infection, more than 130 uniformed officials were instructed to remain in quarantine. The New York Times wrote that this is the 4th strike of the virus since the beginning of the pandemic.
Although the spokesperson of the agency refused to reveal the exact number of officers infected and quarantined, it has been estimated that more than 300 officers and agents, out of 1600 involved in screening events and patrolling the White House grounds, have been in isolation or quarantine since March.
The reason for the exposure to the virus is unknown. But, according to the recorded timeline of events, the second outbreak in White House was reported just after President Trump’s indoor rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and following a trip Vice-President Mike Pence took to campaign in Arizona.
The Secret Service also provided security to lower-profile events hosted during the Presidential campaign of Joe Biden.
