Five security personnel, including police chief killed in bomb explosion in Afghanistan
Faryab, Afghanistan. Five security personnel, including police chief Safar Mohammad Bidar, were killed in a bomb explosion targeted at an armored police vehicle in Qaramqol district of Afghanistan’s northern Faryab province on Tuesday night.
They were travelling to reinforce security checkpoints attacked by the Taliban militants in surrounding areas of the district, Xinhua reported.
Abdul Karim Yourish, spokesman for the Faryab police chief said, “The incident took place when the police chief was on his way to support security forces who were under Taliban attack in an area in the district.” In the counter attack, the security forces killed six militants and wounded three others.
The spokesman did not provide further details. No group, including the Taliban, has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
Violence has renewed in the country amidst ongoing efforts for peace. Taliban attacks have intensified in Faryab recently, killing government troops and civilians.
