Govt seeks 24-hour explanation from some labs regarding COVID-19 tests
Only special labs authorized to test foreign bound Nepalis now onwards
Kathmandu. The Ministry for Health and Population has sought a 24-hour explanation from four labs for not following the protocols set by the government. According to Dr Jageshwar Gautam, spokesperson to the ministry, Star hospital, Central Diagnostic laboratory, Siriya Health Care and HAMS Hospital have faced the government action.
“Test samples have to be stored for three months, if the reports come positive and for two months, if the reports come negative. These labs did not follow the protocol; hence, we have asked them the reason for not complying with the protocol,” he said.
The Nepal Airlines flight to Japan, Hong Kong and some other international destinations had been suspended as the passengers who had travelled with negative reports from Nepali labs tested positive there. The ministry had formed an enquiry committee to probe into the matter. The labs had been asked to provide explanation as per the committee’s recommendation.
Spokesperson Gautam also informed that Nepal government has chosen some A listed laboratories to provide the COVID-19 test facilities to all Nepalis travelling to foreign countries now onwards. The ministry has also decided to ask all labs to design protocols for their internal quality control.
